SUE HEALEY – DANCE and the MOVING IMAGE
5 Days, Sep 9 – 13
WHO SUE HEALEY with cinematographer RICHARD CORFIELD
WHAT Sue Healey will lead a 5-day workshop for those interested in developing a screendance practice – experimenting with and challenging the form of dance for the screen.
Our lives and our connections with other people are mediated through screens. How to cut through the deluge of senseless imagery that saturates our existence? How instead can we make meaningful art in this medium?
This workshop hones visual perception and kinaesthetic awareness alongside choreographic and film-making skills. Training the eye/sensing with the body. The duet between the camera and dancer is explored.
What is the choreographic potential of this partnership? How can dance film extend our understanding of dance? And reach new audiences? What can it say that live dance cannot?
Participants will have the opportunity to create a film in a studio and site-specific locations. Each artist will devise and create a short dance film over the week, assisting and performing with other collaborators. Participants will use smart phones/their own cameras, as well as experience the collaboration with professional cinematographer Richard Corfield. Editing will be explored on the last 2 days and films will be screened.
No previous film-making skills are required.
