The Tap Affect is the inaugural work of newly founded Australian Tap Company that celebrates Australian tap dancers inspirations. Each dancer has a unique style and story. In segments, they will delve into their emotional bond to the art form.

OUT OF THE STUDIO – DIRTY FEET

EMILY FLANNERY

Bulnuruwanha (Taking Flight) explores the birds significant to Wiradjuri dreaming in the creation of land. The role of the birds, their personalities/characteristics are significant in creating the land but what happened to them after colonisation? Emily Flannery is working with dancers Amy Flannery and Jye Uren and collaborating with sound artist Thomas J Kelly. Jasmine Gulash will be mentoring Emily throughout the Out of the Studio program.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Emily Flannery is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Forbes in the Central West of NSW. Emily trained at the McDonald College focusing on classical ballet before joining NAISDA to further her studies and her connection to culture at NAISDA Dance College. Emily was the recipient of Young Regional Artist Scholarship (YRAS) and spent five months at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel. Since graduating, Emily has performed with Opera Australia, Phunktional Arts and Karul Projects, and collaborated with Cloe Fournier and Yolande Brown. Emily is an Artist in Residence at PACT Theatre with the Lost All Sorts Collective for 2020. Emily is the recipient of the Joanne Harris Graduate Scholarship for 2020 and will study with Jasmin Vardimon Company in 2021. As an emerging Indigenous dancer and choreographer Emily hopes to share her culture and her spirit through movement. Emily has a strong interest in integrated dance and has trained with DirtyFeet to become an artist support worker and is now a key member of The Right Foot deliver team and assists artists with disability participate in The Choreographic Lab program.
