Maxine Doyle
Maxine is an independent choreographer and director with an MA in choreography from the Laban Centre and is a recipient of the Bonnie Bird Choreography Award. She was Artistic Director of First Person Dance Company from 1996 – 2003 touring works such as “Déja Deux”, “In the Face of a Stranger”, “Plastic Chill” and “It’s Only a Game Show”.
Maxine is an independent choreographer and director. Since 2002 she has been Director and Choreographer for Punchdrunk, with whom she co-directed their many multi award-winning works including the much lauded “Sleep No More”, “The Drowned Man” and “The Mask of the Red Death”. In 2019 she created the celebrated site-specific work “Sunset” (Australian Dance Award) for Strut Dance and the Perth Festival.
Maxine is a regular principal artist at Springboard Dance Montreal, B12 Festival in Berlin and has mentored for the iconic Jacobs Pillow Dance Season.
In 2023 Maxine continued her collaboration with Es Devlin in a large-scale dance installation work “Salamander” commissioned by the Brisbane International Festival and Australasian Dance Collective.
Gabriell Nankivell
Gabrielle is an acclaimed Australian artist. Her atmospheric performance works and immersive projects are known for their vivid choreography, attention to detail and evocative combinations of the mundane and the bizarre.
Gabrielle’s work has been widely presented across Australia, Europe and Asia. Recent works include The Incandescent Dark (2022) for Australasian Dance Collective, Welcome to Galactica (2022) for Brisbane Festival’s Art Boat, Sightings (2022), an interdisciplinary portrait of place and social practice project, Future History (2021), a full-length solo performance, and Wonder Grit (2021), an action-packed performance text commissioned by The Mill & Adelaide Festival Centre for The Move.
As a performer Gabrielle has worked with Australian Dance Theatre, Alexander Baervoets (BE), Chunky Move/Gideon Obarzanek, Gavin Webber/Regurgitator, Jurij Konjar (SLO), Maxine Doyle (UK), The Farm, Thomas Steyaert (BE), Raul Maia (PT) & Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus (BE) amongst others.
She was Artist in Residence at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (2017), Sydney Dance Company’s inaugural Training Associate (2021) and is currently part of the Artistic Team at Australasian Dance Collective.
