Parramatta Community Workshops
As part of FORM’s Parramatta-wide wrap around program of events supporting “If These Walls Could Sing”, with City of Parramatta we are excited to present a series of community workshops running from 29 Jan to 7 Feb 2024.
Darug Cultural Weaving Workshop facilitated by Jannawi Dance Clan
This workshop aims to delve into First Peoples’ storytelling through an immersive cultural weaving event. Participants will be invited to engage in a rich cultural exchange about the meaning of community through weaving traditional pieces and participants will be weaving neckpieces and earrings in this workshop. The Jannawi Dance Clan will lead this exchange, offering their profound knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world’s oldest living Indigenous culture.
Suitable for adults (ages 16 and over), beginners welcome. All materials provided.
The workshop is FREE however registrations are essential.

Jannawi Dance Clan is a community-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance company encompassing modern, urban and traditional dance styles. The name Jannawi means ‘with you, with me’ in the Darug language of New South Wales. Jannawi performs and teaches to inspire other Indigenous people to practise cultural values and identities. Committed to honour and share knowledge, they encourage awareness and understanding of the world’s oldest living Indigenous culture.
Brazilian Drumming Workshop facilitated by Parramatta Afro-Brazilian Drumming group
Participants will learn and play beats from the streets of Rio including Brazilian regional styles such as funk, samba-reggae, maculele, Afro and Afoxe. All drums are provided for the workshop. Beginners are very welcome and all are encouraged to come along, have some fun and make some noise with the Parramatta Brazilian Drumming group!
Suitable for adults (ages 16 and over), beginners welcome. Drums provided.
The workshop is FREE however registrations are essential.

Dumpling Making Workshop facilitated by Sydney Olympic Peninsula Multicultural Community Association
Participants will learn how to make traditional Chinese dumplings whilst connecting with culture and the community of Wentworth Point.
Suitable for all ages, families and beginners welcome. All materials provided.
The workshop is FREE however registrations are essential.

Indian Dance Workshop facilitated by Agal Dance Company
Participants will learn the basics of Bharathanatyam (South Indian Classical Dance) in an inclusive workshop. Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance form that originated in Tamil Nadu. It is one of eight Indian classical dance forms recognized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Learn how to use your hands to create gestures for story telling along with footwork from the Bharathnatyam dance style with Agal Dance Company.
Facilitated by Chidambaram R Suresh and Vishnu Arunasalam.
Suitable for adults (ages 16 and over), beginners welcome. No dance training required.

Agal Dance Company was established in August 2018 and is primarily based in Sydney. Agal is a cutting-edge dance group, exploring the style of Bharathanatyam (South Indian Classical Dance) through contemporary and modern world techniques. It is the first of its kind in Australia as uses a South Asian vocabulary to critically think about the world and the issues we face as Australians of a South Asian background.
