Independent Dance Exchange Australia (IDEA) and Lewis Major are looking for dancers for contracted projects in 2024, 2025 and 2026. This includes the remounting and restaging of repertoire work following FORM Dance’s recent IDEA’24 festival, led by international contemporary dance luminaries, including the UK’s Hofesh Shechter.
The engagement will be semi-fulltime and involve new creation periods, repertoire restaging, performances, and national and international touring work. Dancers will be compensated at commensurate Live Performance Award rates, and creation and restaging will include residency (international and local) periods with provided accommodation and travel.
WHERE / WHEN Auditions are by invitation only on the following dates and locations:
SYDNEY – Brent Street / 122 Lang Rd, Moore Park NSW 2021 12th of October / 10:00am to 15:00 followed by interviews
ADELAIDE (location TBC) 19th of October / 10:00am to 15:00 followed by interviews
APPLICATION CLOSING DATE 07/10/2024 Midnight – We acknowledge the fast turnaround. To expedite the process, we will aim to notify applicants within 48 hours of application closing date.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The ideal candidates will: – Embrace a sense of belonging within a group and show respect for all colleagues – Demonstrate strong improvisation skills and the ability to explore the full range of the body’s capabilities – Be team players who are patient, supportive, and bring positive energy to the studio and touring ensemble – Possess a solid technical foundation (all techniques are welcome) – Value collaboration and creativity
NOTE: We welcome applications from dance artists who have not necessarily followed a formal academic dance training.
CRITERIA Applicants must be over 18 and have the right to work in Australia, as well as possess a valid passport. Support is available for international dancers to secure Australian work visas, but it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure eligibility to travel to and audition in Australia in October.

Please indicate in your application which location and date you intend to attend. The audition will be led by members of the IDEA team and Lewis Major, and international workshop leaders from the IDEA’24 festival.
As part of the application, you will be required to submit your CV, headshot, preferred audition location and a link (unlisted Vimeo link preferred) to a recent performance reel. The video should not exceed 10 minutes and should be of good quality. However, please don’t feel the need to create a new showreel for this application. If possible, include performance, rehearsal/studio footage, floorwork, and a short improvisation in the video. If other performers are in the video, please clearly indicate who you are and the section you perform in the “notes” field on the video page.
