by Michael Smith & The Farm presented by Sydney Festival produced by FORM Dance Projects
Saddle up for Cowboy, an interactive solo contemporary dance work that ropes in the Wild West and your imagination. Creator and performer Michael Smith, armed with an original score by Regurgitator bassist Ben Ely, gallops through vast landscapes and intimate spaces, dragging you into a world where-the cowboy is king – or is he?
Through this witty, madly physical and vulnerable exploration, Smith reveals the shared humanity beneath the Stetson, and the raw desires and hidden vulnerabilities that shape our identities.
And in Cowboy, you‘re not just a spectator; you‘re in the posse, brawling in the saloon and robbing a train, transforming the space and the story as it unfolds.
Its creator, Smith, is an award–winning artist working across contemporary dance, dance-theatre, film and installation. He’s also an artist at Dancenorth Australia (Wayfinder; .Sydney Festival 2024).
Giddy–up for a wild ride. Horse optional.
“Genuine, spontaneous and humorous, with a healthy dose of self–mockery on the side.” – Dance Australia
