Congratulations to our Churchill Fellows 2013

FORM Dance Projects would like to congratulate recently announced Churchill Fellows, Samantha Chester and Sarah-Vyne Vassallo. It is great to see two successful, deserving dance artists receive this prestigious award. FORM touched base with both artists to see what they had to say on the honour of receiving such an award and what they plan to do with their fellowships. Have a read below. We wish them well!

Samantha Chester

I was so amazed and humbled to be given a Churchill Fellowship. It was an extensive interview process and one that  is such an honour.  For my Fellowship I will be travelling to the UK and Belgium to study and research contemporary devising and making  techniques for dance and theatre  with companies such as Frantic Assembly, Complicite, Motionhouse and les ballets C de la B and Damaged Goods. While in these countries I will be meeting and doing as many workshops as humanely possible to feed into my movement teaching work and choreographic and theatre making practice. I will be documenting the process and on return I will be holding workshops to share the information with the dance and theatre community.

Sarah-Vyne Vassallo

“I am honoured to be a Churchill Fellow and look forward to discovering and taking on new experiences with some of the leading integrated companies in the world.” Sarah-Vyne Vassallo

Travelling in July 2014, I aim to explore the choreographic devising processes for creating and presenting contemporary dance theatre within an integrated environment for dancers with and without disabilities.

I plan to undertake research through an artist residency, practical workshops, observation and interviews. I will be visiting Candoco Dance Company, Frantic Assembly and Southbank Centre in the United Kingdom and Axis Dance Company in the USA.

My aim is to expand my knowledge and skills by;

  • Exploring varying artists and companies approaches and processes in creating new work;
  • Study adaptive methods and tools for working with people with all kinds of disabilities;
  • Investigate the curation process of producing and presenting integrated dance theatre.
