Mountains Never Meet – Caroline Baum
So I was sitting here watching Martin’s piece slowly reveal its power to me and all I could think of was the London riots that were happening at the same time. I watched this display of masculinity and diversity on stage, shifting from order to chaos and back to order, disunity to harmony, the beauty of bodies finding a common pulse, the wonderful spring-loaded bounce of boys of different shapes and sizes, and thinking what a powerful metaphor it was for what was happening a world away, and what a shame that this benign energy could not be harnessed and transplanted over there. Dance as healing agent, a positive comunicator of strength in the face of hostility, aggression and misunderstanding. The potential of Martin’s piece really resonated with me and I am still thinking about it.
