Maxine is a London based choreographer and director. She was Artistic Director of First Person Dance Company from 1996 – 2003 touring works such as Déja Deux, In the Face of a Stranger, Plastic Chill and It’s Only a Game Show.
Maxine has created dance theatre work for Netherlands Dance Theatre 2, Detroit Metropolitan Dance, The BalletBoyz (UK) in collaboration with composer Cassie Kinoshi, The Martha Graham Company (USA) in collaboration with Bobbi Jene Smith, Dart Dance Company (Berlin), Verve (UK) and Johannes Wieland Company (Germany) and is a regular principal artist at Springboard Dance Montreal / Pittsburgh, B12 Festival in Berlin. Work for theatre and opera includes National Theatre, Old Vic Theatre, Young Vice Theatre, Glyndebourne Opera and Baden Baden opera. Films include Mari (2021) and Punchdrunk’s The Third Day (2020).
In 2019 Maxine created the award-winning, site specific work Sunset (Australian Dance Award) for the Perth International Festival and in 2022 she premiered the large scale stage and installation work Here Not Here in collaboration with visionary artist Es Devlin and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani (Sweden).
In 2023 Maxine continued her collaboration with Es Devlin with the critically acclaimed dance theatre installation work – Salamander – for the Brisbane International Festival and Australasian Dance Collective. Most recently Maxine created Hubris (2026) for the Venice Dance Biennale. Future projects include Mayday for Bodhi Dance Company (Austria) and collaborations with Zfin Malta, Steps Festival (Switzerland) and Form Dance Projects Sydney.
Since 2002 Maxine has been an Associate Artist with Punchdrunk, for whom she has co-directed (with Felix Barrett) and choreographed multiple works including the multi-award winning Sleep No More (London, Boston, New York, Shanghai,) (2002 – present) Seoul (2025 – present) The Burnt City (2022) The Drowned Man (2013), Mask of The Red Death (2008) and Faust (2006).
