Merge
Merge intertwines the histories and cultures of Breakin’ and Waacking, two dance forms of different intentions, lineages, and social functions. This is an attempt to bring those two worlds into the same space and form a new vocabulary of movement and expression.
Merge is brought to by some of the most exciting and diverse artists in their own rights; Naethiel ‘Tango’ Lumbera, a multi-award winning breakdancer from Sydney and choreographer Anastasios Repousi (Bboy Taz), who’s presence and leadership in the world of Australian breaking and street dance has cemented his name among the best in the country.
Merge is an exhilarating collision and synergy of styles.
Anastasios, also known as Taz, is a well-renowned breaker and performer within the Australian dance scene, recognised both culturally and commercially. His career spans national and international performance, with a reputation grounded in technical excellence, musicality, and artistic depth.
Taz’s work is shaped by the intersection of his artistic and academic backgrounds, resulting in a polymathic and eclectic approach to movement that blends physical mastery with conceptual clarity.
Naethiel ‘Tango’ Lumbera
Naethiel “Tango” Lumbera has been Breakin’ for fifteen years. He has trained across various street dance styles to deepen his understanding of movement and has dedicated his life to mastering his craft.
Born in Australia to Filipino parents with Japanese and Chinese ancestry, Tango carries a richly layered cultural background that informs both his identity and artistic expression.
